foodness

Last weekend we went down to Misquamicut beach in R.I. and the man and I got to out to eat at one of our favorite hip restaurants, The Up River Cafe. They have the coolest drinks, such as the "Strip and go naked", which I had last time. This time I ordered the La Paloma, which was tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda over ice. Yum. They didn't have the to die for lobster nachos this time, but instead we started with a flatbread pizza topped with baba ganouj, crumbled fresh lamb sausage, goat cheese, and watercress. It was fabulous. We followed that with a cured leg of duck confit with a backberry/cherry compote and a grilled flat iron steak. Both entrees came with this crispy fried triangle of potato au gratin which I could have easily half a dozen of and nothing else. I want an endless supply of these things when I am PMS-ing. SRSLY.

Of course we really wanted the espresso martinis for dessert. Our waiter, a young man who looked barely old enough to drink the liquor he was serving, (and who's cheeks bared witness to a day at the beach before his shift) noted the martinis and then asked, "And anything of substance?" What a hot shit! LOL. Of course we got sweets to save face. :p

The beach itself was beautiful. Saturday was the better day for sure, as it cleared just after we arrived, and it wasn't too crowded because the fog kept most people away. Sunday the peek-a-boo sun gave way to a shower which probably would've passed quickly, but we'd been there almost 3 hours and we had to clean up and get back to MA so it was just as well. We're going back for the Labor Weekend anyway. More ice cream from St. Claire's Annex. And maybe even more Up River Cafe. Mmmm...
