"I'm hiding under there"

This is the best story I have read all week. Three girls from a high school in Long Beach, NY were sent home from school because of their rather creative costumes.

See it was Superhero Day, and they chose to dress up as "Captain Underpants" of children's fiction fame.

Despite the fact that they were obviously not nude, (they wore flesh colored body stockings under the underwear, and a red cape) the principal said "But the appearance was that they were naked." And told them to change or be sent home. They went home. You go girls. What's the big freaking deal? I think Michael K said it best with his comment: it could’ve been worse…they could’ve dressed up as Rambo and shot everyone.

Hmm, maybe I should do that for Halloween...

(dress up like that, not shoot everyone)

i had a similar tug-o-war battle in middle school with something i wore. it was a long, black, gauze-y skirt with built-in black leggings underneath (shut up, it was the late eighties ok!). and the principal called my mom to come take me home. when my mom asked why (always the rebel, go mom!), the prinicap said, "her skirt is see-through!", to which my mom replied, "but she has something under it", to which the principal objected, "but the leggings are skin tight!", and my mom answered "but she's wearing something over them!". this went back and forth for several minutes before my mom grabbed me and stormed out of the school exclaiming "i can't believe you'd rather have her go home than stay at school just bc of something she's wearing!"

life was always interesting with my mom. *grin*

anyway, too bad those girls spent all that time on their creative costumes, only to have them shunned. It could have been so much worse...i wonder how many slutty witches or she-devils or catwoman costumes got to stay at school that day, when those three innocent fun costumes got sent home. hmph.
