Every day is Mother's Day

I received this fun tidbit from MK. I know I have a lot of "mom" readers so what better place to celebrate.

Did you hear the news girls? Stay at home moms would draw a salary of over $134K if they got paid for the work, based on a survey by Salary.com.

"To reach the projected pay figures, the survey calculated the earning power of the 10 jobs respondents said most closely comprise a mother’s role — housekeeper, day-care teacher, cook, computer operator, laundry machine operator, janitor, facilities manager, van driver, chief executive and psychologist."

For the first time, the company included that women working outside the home wou,ld earn an extra $85,000 on top of her actual wages for the work she does at home.

Employed mothers reported spending on average 44 hours a week at their outside job and 49.8 hours at their home job, while the stay-at-home mother worked 91.6 hours a week, it showed. I guess the full time home moms got more $$ counted for overtime on the job.

Now granted, as the accountant-spouse points out to me, the mom is not always doing for others. ("the article implies she is slaving constantly for others.") If you divide that 91.6 hours a week out it averages to 13.01 hours a day "working." There are times we are doing for ourselves. ("No doubt a difficult job and worth considerable amounts of dinero. But it does have benefits. Also in addition to the spending money she has use of the company car even if it is a minivan LOL. ")

Hubby also takes umbrage that these articles/studies/women almost never give credit to what the husband does at home. ("I don't think I'm the only husband who cleans the kitchen, does laundry, drives kids to and fro, takes garbage out, pays the bills etc.") So props to my man. He is the Soccer Dad, I must admit.

So for moms all over, compensation comes in many forms, but sadly cashola isn't generally one of them. I am soon to vacation in Maine year round. Still a paid vacation at a luxury spa would be an awfully nice Mother's Day bonus. ;-)

and neither is Social Security! to any moms out there who went straight into mommyhood without working outside the home, all those zeros describing your future benefits are NOT an accurate description of your worth!

i need a raise...

I have to give kudos to my husband too. He works hard around the house too.

I wish I made more money too. I wouldn't give up being a mom for anything.

Did you just say you're moving to Maine permanently? That would rock MY Casbah. :) Don't know why, it just would. My best friend lives in Rumford; writes for their newspaper.

I saw those statistics, too. I think it's silly.
