It's not a bird, nor a plane

When I come into work, I feel like a modern-day superhero. Sans superpowers, alas. It would be cool to fly to work, or shoot flames at the cars that piss me off. Much like Clark Kent would step into his phone booth, the moment I put on those big, cool sunglasses and climb into the driver's seat I shed the mommy coat and become… well the Urban Goddess I suppose.

I walk different; my "city walk" comes back instinctually.
I walk past construction, smile and say "good morning" to friendly cops working detail.
I walk past history, The Garden, sports legends almost whisper to me from rafters full of retired jerseys.
I walk past post-9/11. Homeland Security and federal buildings.
But the bright sunshine reflects the promise of spring off every rooftop and glass paneled skyscraper. The still unfolding leaves of the maples look like tiny bats sleeping from the braches, and the smell of garden mulch and blossoms abound.
(I walk down Blossom Street, hee!)
There is just as much beauty to be found here as there is in my lovely country landscape full of conifers and farms. The bridge is the beauty inside me. I bring it wherever I go. That is my superpower.

*^*^*^*^
Gee, I didn't know where I was going with that at all, I was just rambling and free writing but I brought it home.

P.S. Kellie went home! Now the dilema: Who to back? Kat, Elliot, or Chris???

Oh I found this article and thought of you. It is an article on urban sprawl from outerspace. They show Boston http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060426182328.htm

Beautiful piece!

"The still unfolding leaves of the maples look like tiny bats sleeping from the branches"

Love that!

And beauty _is_ truely something we carry with ourselves.

I carry beauty with me as well. All I have to do is close my eyes and see my friends and family.

I make beer. If that's not a superpower, I don't know what is.
