It is so bloody hot, and my 5 year old wanted to take a hot shower. I think I need fluid replacement now.

My eight-year old daughter had her first manicure and pedicure this weekend. I wasn't sure how the trip would go, because she didn't seem all that excited when I told her about it. My sister-in-law and I were going, so I had the idea to take her with us as a special "girls only" thing; you know?

We picked out colors first, and she went right for the metallic blues, and neon green, LOL. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes or squelch her spirit, and she settled on an iridescent purple for her fingers, and this fiery amber pearl for her toes. While we waited, I grabbed the most recent issue of Lucky magazine. They took me first. As I sat in the pedicure chair, I saw her go up to the rack of magazine and she came back with another copy of Lucky. I thought that was too cute. I want to imagine her little (incredibly bright) brain thinking, "Mommy took this one, so it must be a good one to pick if I want to look cool." LOL

It was just so adorable to watch her getting her nails done. I got a little worried, because she looked unsure and nervous at first. But I watched her, and she seemed to be enjoying herself. This was a primo place. They washed your hands at the sink, and gave you a hot towel on your neck along with a shoulder run while you dried. They put your shoes on at the end. My daughter leaned in and whispered to me, "They don't let you lift a finger!" They put a litter sticker on a nail of each hand and foot.

As reserved as she was about the whole affair, the fact that she felt that we definitely had a much better time than the boys, (who went shopping with daddy at a local farm) assured me she really enjoyed it. That, and how she asked if there was a place like that near us back home. *g* The best part of the story though, which I shared with the ladies at the party we went to that evening, was her asking how much everything cost. I assured her she needn't worry about that, but she was insistent. My sister-in-law said, "She just wants to know if it something she can do all the time," and laughed. But my daughter said she just wanted to know if it was worth the money, so being curious what she thought, I told her.

"Wow, it's worth way more than that!"

She refused to play out in the wet grass this morning, nor will she take a shower tonight because she wants it to "last as many days as possible." My little Becky Thatcher has a girly-girl inside her. If only I could get her to cut her damn hair!
